Md. Zahidul Islam

As cliché as it may sound, I've been a technophile for as long as I can remember. I believe this fascination for science and technology has guided me throughout my journey to today. I am currently working as a Lecturer in the dept. of Computer Science and Engineering at Islamic University of Technology (IUT). Previously, I worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Apurba Technologies Ltd where I worked on Bangla OCR systems. I have been ranked 1st (combined) in the Graduating Batch of 2021 of the CSE dept. at IUT. My primary research field is Computer Vision, Machine Learning and their real-life applications. I am interested to develop robust and efficient algorithms for visual recognition and interpretation that are effective across various domains in the real-world and can understand human appearance, behaviors, attributes and interactions in an interpretable manner. My final year undergraduate thesis was on "Efficient Violence Detection from Surveillance Footage" (Published in IJCNN 2021). Currently, I am continuing research in this field with IUT Computer Vision Lab (IUT CV Lab). I like to develop small projects on Github as a hobby. In my spare time, I like to explore deep mysteries of the universe and history of humanity.
