Networking Research Group
Leader: Dr. Muhammad Mahbub Alam, Professor, CSE Department

The Networking Research Group at the Department of CSE, IUT involves fundamental research on different aspects of broadband and wireless networks. Our research spans a wider range of topics in networking, including modeling, analyzing, implementing, and enhancing the Networking Protocols for wired and wireless networks, Especially for Wireless Local Area Network, Wireless Mesh Networks, and Wireless Sensor Networks. Another important aspect of the group’s research is the development of networking protocols that are optimized across multiple layers of the protocol stack. The major focus is given on Transport, Network, and Medium Access Control layers. Currently, we are working on the enhancement of security and energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks and energy Harvesting Sensor Networks. We seek a principled understanding of new and emerging areas through a complementary mix of theoretical and applied experimental research.

Network and Data Analysis Group (NDAG)
Leader: Dr. Abu Raihan Mostafa Kamal, Professor, CSE Department

NDAG is targeted to enhance the research in the area of networking and data analytics. In the networking perspective, the major focus is given on core protocol enhancement, diversified application deployment and testing, and ad hoc and sensor networking. It also carries research in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) since the next few decades are expected to be dominated by extensive research and development of IoT. In data analysis, on the other hand, the emphasis is given on data mining and big data analytics.

Computer Vision Lab (CVLab)
Leader: Dr. Md. Hasanul Kabir, Professor, CSE Department

The computer vision lab (CVLab) was formed in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the Islamic University of Technology in 2011 under the leadership of Dr. Md. Hasanul Kabir. CVLab is dedicated to the study and research of different algorithms and techniques in computer vision and their applications to real-world problems. Our work mainly focuses on the fields of digital imaging, image representation, machine learning, pattern classification, and machine vision. Currently, we are working on low-level feature representation, biomedical image retrieval, human face analysis, motion analysis, and activity recognition.

Systems and Software Lab (SSL)
Leader: Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Professor, CSE Department

The focus of Systems and Software Lab (SSL) is to have the experimental design, implementation, and evaluation of systems, software, and technologies that enable the development of a wide range of emerging applications. The group is interested in sensor data and signals that may help developing interactions with computers. Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning are the theoretical area which we blend together. We have been working on inertia sensor-based activity recognition, eye tracking based mouse pointer, human intention and attention detection, hand and body gesture recognition, accelerometer-based chair gesture recognition, etc. We sometimes focus on applications to facilitate special group, for example, speech-based text correction tool.

The group also actively participates in software engineering research and in social network mining. We have done software repository mining to increase software reusability. We are keen to understand code usage/ reuse patterns in software development. We have studied social networks in the view of data mining so that we can recommend friends, groups, etc.
