21st IUT Computer Programming Contest (IUTCPC) 2020
Published on 23/12/2020
Amidst the pandemic, online activities have taken up more and more space in our daily lives. And the students of IUT are using this space to hone their programming skills to perfection, a proof of that is the amazing performance displayed at the 21st IUT Computer Programming Contest (IUTCPC) 2020 held on the 20th of December. An astounding 311 participants registered for the contest.

The event started with an opening ceremony that featured esteemed personalities such as the honorable Vice-Chancellor of IUT Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Head of the CSE Department Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahbub Alam, along with Mohammad Kaykobad sir, Distinguished Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, BRAC University as the chief guest.

“IUT is always willing to help equip students with professional skills such as outcome-based thinking, leadership skills, etc. Contests like these really help that cause to a great extent”, said Dr. Rafiqul Islam.

“I had really enjoyed my time in IUT during ICT fests, and I also got a chance to take a closer look at the diverse students in the campus. In the last ICPC regional, IUT occupied the 9th position and only kept getting better and better. It makes me very happy and proud to see the students shine in all spheres. I hope one day we will see them raise the Bangladeshi flag high in the international sphere as well, because they have every bit of passion and dedication necessary to make that happen'', said Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad.

Finally, the head of the department thanked all the guests for joining the ceremony and encouraged the students to give their best efforts.

As the curtains were drawn for the opening ceremony, the four hour long battle of problem-solving capabilities finally started. In the end, Hasibul Haque Himel from CSE 8th Semester took the title of champion (540 points out of 900 possible), followed closely by Asaduzzaman Hirok of CSE 6th Semester (540 points, behind on time penalty) and Shantanu Rahman of EEE 2nd Semester (510 points). All of them were able to solve at least 5 out of the 9 problems.

We thank all the participants of the programming contest for their participation and enthusiasm. Congratulations to the winners for making it to the top. We hope to see you making the Programming Community of IUT proud on many more occasions. And to the ones who couldn’t, it’s only the beginning of your story. There is still a long way ahead full of problem-solving adventures. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and promise even better and bigger contests in the coming years. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Toph for their amazing support and help throughout our contest. We would also like to express immense appreciation for the efforts of the faculty members and problem setters, without whom, none of this would be a reality.
