Girls in ICT is an initiative aimed at creating a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to pursue studies and careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICT). Every year, the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) celebrates Girls in ICT Day to recognize the contributions of women in the vast field of ICT.
In line with this mission, BdOSN, in collaboration with the IIT Girls' Community of Dhaka University, presented a week-long series of activities to celebrate Girls in ICT Day 2024. The highlight of these activities was the Luna Shamsuddoha All Girls' Programming Contest 2024. The preliminary round of this contest was held online on April 26th, 2024, culminating in an exhilarating final round on May 1st, 2024, at Dhaka University’s Information Technology Institute.
The contest provided a unique platform for young women from diverse backgrounds to display their coding skills, collaborate on challenging problems, and inspire one another. Participants engaged in a series of programming tasks that tested their creativity, analytical thinking, and technical proficiency. The event aimed to bridge the gender gap in technology by encouraging more girls to pursue careers in STEM through mentorship and recognition of their achievements.
The Luna Shamsuddoha All Girls' Programming Contest was graced by several notable figures, including Professor B M Mainul Hossain, Director of the Dhaka University Institute of Information Technology, and Dr. Lafifa Jamal, Professor of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department. Their presence, along with other distinguished guests, underscored the strong community support for gender diversity in ICT.
