The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and the IUT Computer Society (IUTCS) successfully orchestrated their flagship event, the IUT National ICT Fest 2024, marking its eleventh consecutive year. The two-day festival, which began on April 26th, 2024, aimed to ignite and enhance interest in information technology education among students across the nation. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque inaugurated the event as the chief guest, while University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Prof Dr. Mohammad Sazzad Hossain attended as the special guest.

The festival's primary goal was to unite technology enthusiasts from all over Bangladesh, facilitating discussions and sharing experiences on a diverse array of emerging technological topics. The festival featured a wide range of competitions, including the Datathon, Inter-University Programming Competition, UXparkle, IT Business Case Contest, GameJam, E-Sports Odyssey, OpenAPI Hackathon, DevOps Hackathon, Capture the Flag Competition, Quiz Competition, Code Catalyst, and many other popular contests.
The inaugural event, the Datathon, was a time-constrained analytical competition that challenged participants to solve problems using real-world datasets. Contestants were provided data in 10 regional dialects, tasked with labeling and processing it to develop a speech recognition algorithm capable of understanding the nation's entire language spectrum. The champion of the Datathon was Jibanananda Das from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT).

Another highlight was the Inter-University Programming Competition (IUPC), where participants tackled various programming problems within time and memory constraints. The champions were the team SUST_Ikhwan from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
The UI/UX challenge required contestants to design a creative and effective user interface for a given app, with the champion being the team Kerning Racers from IUT. The IT Business Case Competition challenged participants to solve business-related problems using their skills and institutional knowledge. The winning team was Last Comes First from IUT.

The GameJam saw contestants creating games adhering to a designated theme, with Team SUS from IUT emerging as the champions. The E-Sports Odyssey featured intense competitions in popular video games such as Valorant and FIFA.
Rumman Bin Hossain from North South University won the FIFA competition, and the team BETRAYED BUBT from Bangladesh University of Business and Technology won the Valorant competition.

The OpenAPI Hackathon tested participants' development skills in real-world scenarios, with BUET_Genesis from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology taking the top spot. The DevOps Hackathon required competitors to create innovative solutions using the latest DevOps tools and strategies, and the winning team was A Borg Cube from IUT.
The Capture the Flag competition featured challenges in cybersecurity, including cryptographic puzzles, reverse engineering tasks, and hardware hacking challenges. The champions were Federal Bank Investigation, a team consisting of members from multiple institutions: Noakhali Science and Technology University, University of the People, Munshiganj Polytechnic Institute, and Govt. Hazi Asmat College.
The Code Catalyst: Refactoring competition showcased participants' skills in refactoring, debugging, and optimization strategies, with IUT_DNA from IUT winning the competition. The Quiz competition tested the general knowledge and quick thinking of school and college students, with NDC Gold from Notre Dame College emerging as the champions.

The festival drew over 1000 students from 40 universities and 20 schools and colleges. Distinguished figures from academia and industry, such as Saleemur Chowdhury, Associate Professor at Queens School of Computing; Mainul Islam, Managing Director of Streamstech; and Mohammad Oli Ahad, CEO and Founder of Intelligent Machines, led various seminars and workshops. Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad served as the chief guest during the closing ceremony.
Presented by the IUT CSE Department and the Computer Society, the ICT Fest provided an excellent platform for students passionate about computer science and technology to exhibit their skills and creativity. The festival's diverse lineup of competitions highlighted technical expertise, fostered idea exchange, and encouraged both students and professionals to push the boundaries of innovation in the digital age.
