The "Intra IUT Junior Programming Contest 2024," held on March 27th, 2024, at Islamic University of Technology (IUT), provided a significant boost to the students of the university by fostering a competitive yet collaborative environment that nurtured their programming skills and problem-solving abilities.
This annual event, specifically designed for junior competitive programmers—students in their first and second years—saw the participation of 124 students. Unlike previous years, this year's contest was individual, with each student registering independently. The contest featured a single, onsite round conducted in the CSE Department's Labs 1 to 6, where participants tackled nine challenging problems. These problems, covering topics such as Math, Modular Arithmetic, Binary Exponentiation, Recursion, and Greedy Algorithms, were created by their mentors.

The event was meticulously organized by senior students from the third and fourth years, with crucial support from faculty members: Asaduzzaman Herok, Md. Bakhtiar Hasan, and Syed Rifat Raiyan. Their combined efforts ensured a smooth and productive contest.
A highlight of the contest was the remarkable performance of first-year student Saom Bin Khaled, who secured the first position by solving seven out of the nine problems. His victory was particularly impressive as he outperformed not only his batchmates but also the more experienced second-year students. This trend of excellence from the first-year students was evident as seven out of the top ten contestants hailed from the first year. Overall, 94 of the 124 participants successfully solved at least one problem, showcasing the widespread talent within the department.

The top five students—Saom Bin Khaled, Nayeem Hossain Ahad, Jannatul Ferdus Rakhi, Fariya Ahmed, and Md. Mahiul Kabir—were awarded prize money worth 12,500 BDT. Additionally, the top ten contestants received crests in recognition of their outstanding performances.

The contest not only helped students prepare for larger, more prestigious competitions but also contributed to building a vibrant coding community within the university. It promoted a culture of continuous learning and innovation, ensuring that the students of IUT remain at the forefront of technological advancement.
