The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia Regional Dhaka Site 2024, held on December 9 at the Shadhinota Sommelon Kendra in Daffodil Smart City, Savar, marked a significant chapter in the journey of Bangladesh’s competitive programming landscape. Featuring 306 teams from across the country, this five-hour-long contest celebrated innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving excellence. Among the participants, six teams represented the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), showcasing exceptional talent and determination.
Team IUT_CocolaChampionBiscuit, composed of senior-year students, achieved a remarkable 5th position, solving six of the 12 challenging problems. Notably, they were the first team to crack "Problem C: Cut the Stick, Share You Must" in the 112th minute, earning special recognition. The remaining IUT teams also performed admirably, solving three problems each and securing ranks of 47, 54, 60, 91, and 102, distinguished only by time penalties. Team IUT_ChronicOverthinkers, composed entirely of junior-year female students, earned the Top All-Girls Team Award, ranking 91st—a significant milestone for gender diversity in competitive programming. Additionally, team IUT_cgpa_matters received accolades for being the first to solve "Problem I: In search of a kind person" at the 7th minute, exemplifying swift analytical thinking.

Beyond the rankings, the ICPC Dhaka Regional provided a vibrant environment for learning and camaraderie. The opening ceremony saw insightful addresses by distinguished figures, including Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of DIU, and Regional Contest Director Prof. Dr. Syed Akhter Hossain, who inspired the participants with their words of encouragement. The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the ICT Division, as the chief guest, alongside industry leaders and academic luminaries. The event underscored the importance of fostering talent and innovation to elevate Bangladesh’s IT sector on the global stage.

IUT’s commitment to competitive programming excellence was evident throughout the event. Prof. Dr. Md. Hasanul Kabir, Head, CSE Department, IUT was present at the venue throughout the day of the contest supporting the students. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, IUT congratulated the participants, promising enhanced resources and training opportunities for future contests.
The ICPC Dhaka Regional 2024 was more than just a contest; it was a celebration of talent, perseverance, and aspiration. With the promise of continued support and growth, IUT is poised to achieve even greater heights in the global programming arena.
