Published on 22/10/2019
For the very first time, an Industry-Academia Collaboration Program was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IUT in the IUT auditorium this 21st September. 4 major corporations (Augmedix Bangladesh, The Jaxara IT LTD., Shohoz and Streams Tech Ltd) joined this program along with the enthusiast students and teachers of IUT.
The goal of this Industry-Academia Collaboration Program is to bridge the gap between the industry and academia by keeping students up-to-date with the latest industry practices. In addition to that, the invited guests discussed what they expect from fresh graduates, what they usually get from them and also possible action plans to work through expectations versus reality.
The program was ornamented by various talented technological personalities who have made their mark in the field of information technology.
The program began with an inauguration speech by the head of the CSE department, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahbub Alam. After that, the honorable guests shared their views about the program and talked about their experience.
Mr. Syedur Rahman, Software Architect & Lead DevOps Engineer Jaxara IT LTD, shared his two cents on how to stay motivated and achieve career goals.
Mr. Taslim Uddin, Mr. Shafiquel Islam (Senior Staff QA Engineer), Mr. Saquib Waheed (Senior Staff Software Engineer) from Augmedix were also present there. Mr. Taslim Uddin talked about his experience in QA Engineering and Management.
Maeenul Islam (CTO), Shekh Shamsuzzaman, (Project Manager), Abdullah Al Farhan (Senior QA Engineer) joined this program from Streams Tech. Among them, Mr. Maeenul Islam talked about solving critical business and tech problems. He also has discussed writing clean code and refactoring dirty ones.
After that, Mr. Topu Newaj, Senior Vice President of Shohoz also talked about their experience about their years in the industry.
All the speakers emphasized on problem-solving skills and other soft skills like facing adverse situations and communication skills.
After the morning session, the teachers had a meeting with the industry personnel about the current academic syllabus of both SWE and CSE programs. Both parties exchanged their thoughts about possible modifications in the existing Syllabus to make the graduates best fit according to the current market demand.
In the evening session, 4 parallel sessions took place in respective labs and classrooms. Each of the four companies conducted a technical session. Also, a programming test was held by Shohoj for the recruitment of 4th-year students.
Students from all the departments and batches of IUT participated in the program spontaneously. The participants have found the program helpful for their future. “The guests talked to us about the struggles that we are about to face in the industry. We need more discussions like that.”, said a participant. The department of CSE plans to hold more events like this in the future.
